Weston Under Penyard Parish Council has set up a steering group to develop our neighbourhood plan. This is possible for the first time as a result of a new law called The Localism Act 2011 which introduces a new element to local plan-making in England called Neighbourhood Planning

Like many communities Weston under Penyard already has a plan, called the Parish Plan 2006. What is different about the new neighbourhood plans is that they are part of a legal framework. This means that once agreed, planning decisions within our parish will have to be made in line with what our neighbourhood plan says, as well as the Local Plan for the county.
The neighbourhood plan will set out how we want the parish to develop through to 2031 but must be based on thorough consultation with residents and businesses.
It’s a really important document to have because it will allow us to decide:
- The future shape and nature of our community.
- The extent of housing development to meet our needs and also to decide where it should go.
- Appropriate design, quality and style of future developments.
- How we protect our landscape and environment.
- Ways in which businesses, employment provision and local facilities and services will be supported.
In short, adoption of a neighbourhood plan will help us secure our future and help us avoid damaging speculative development proposals.
